Mythology of the three kinds of SKY GUITARS 

SKY GUITARS belong to one of three main categories.
Each of those has its own different strengths and unique character.
This is defined by the choice of wood and their respective essential purpose.

The sound of Music is borne from the air we breathe.
Sky Guitars are like winged creatures that belong to the domain of air.

The three families of Sky Guitars are:
1) AQUILA   2) PEGASUS   3) UNICORN

SKY  OF  AQUILA

The first ever three Sky Guitars belonged to the family of AQUILA. 
These were the DOLPHIN SKY, the PURPLE SKY and the EMPEROR.
The next generation consists of younger members of that elect family.
These are  JEANNIE  BIANCA, the SILVER WING and the 50th ANNIVERSARY SKY STRAT.

AQUILA  type SGs are essentially direct descendants of the FENDER STRATOCASTER  guitar, 
made from the same wood, alder, and they are sonically similar to Strats.
But over the years, due to our steady innovations of the incredible MEGA-WING SYSTEMS,  
AQUILA SKY GUITARS  have in effect, become veritable SUPER STRATS. 

From the beginning, in 1983 – originally built by master luthier ANDREAS DEMETRIOU in Brighton,
England – the first AQUILA SKY GUITARS already all featured a vastly extended upper range with up to 35 frets,
as opposed to the 21 frets of a standard STRATOCASTER. 
In fact, Uli’s by now legendary white Strat from SCORPIONS and ELECTRIC SUN days
was the first Strat which already featured 23 frets and which was Uli’s original idea.

AQUILA type SKY GUITARS are all rounders and are best suited for virtuoso players who tend to alternate between lead and rhythm playing. 
They excel in terms of sound – as well as playability – by producing a super clean three-dimensional kind of sound
as well as a striking, powerful singing lead tone  which easily cuts through and dominates every musical situation.
AQUILA SGs command respect and attention whenever and wherever they make an appearance. 

SKY OF PEGASUS

The first two ever PEGASUS SKY GUITARS were MIGHTY WING and the REMBRANDT SKY. 
Both featured 7 strings and warmer, darker sounding wood – beech, with Mighty Wing and mahogany for the REMBRANDT.
The new generation of PEGASUS SGs includes The LIONHEART, INFINITY and SUNRISE ELITE. 

Sonically, some of these are closer to a LES PAUL guitar, BUT they can also emulate the sound of a Strat. 
The result is a unique new guitar sound which has very much its own quality and offers a previously not obtainable super-rich palette
of new colour combinations and individual expression. 
This kind of tonal spectrum and sonic versatility is unheard of in the world of electric guitars, 
but it needs the hands and ears of a tone-conscious musician with imagination to explore and manifest these qualities to the fullest.

PEGASUS SKY GUITARS are the ultimate virtuoso instruments. 
They all have facilitated access to the higher frets due to a different placement of the bridge and pickups. 
They are infinitely powerful in terms of sound and super versatile and they all boast MEGA-WING III systems. 
Although chords are easy to play and sound great, PEGASUS type SGs are pre-dominantly geared for lead-playing 
and fully come into their own in the hands of great players who instinctively understand how to get the best out of them. 
PEGASUS type SGs have a “shape-shifter” quality around them – meaning they will challenge the player to be flexible
and to be on their toes at all times to get the best from the instruments.
But once one has mastered these instruments, it feels as if they play by themselves, because they can give you so much. 
They are power tools of artistic expression. In the hands of a real virtuoso player the sky literally is the limit with these instruments.

PEGASUS SKY GUITARS represent the epitome of modern-day guitar building, 
combining the finest traditional craftsmanship with the best ingredients and cutting-edge new concept and technology.
Truly in a league of their own, they are the STRADIVARIUS of electric guitars.

UNICORN SKY GUITARS

UNICORN SKY GUITARS are the most recent members of the family of SKY GUITARS.
They are represented by the SKY SOLID series, which includes EBONY SKY and MAHOGANY SKY.
This group also includes our semi-acoustic FLAMENCO SKY GUITARS,
like the 8-string SUNSET SKY and the hybrid GEMINI SKY series which are essentially a combination of PEGASUS and UNICORN SGs. 

Although they are genuine SKY GUITARS and can sing every bit as much,
these guitars are a little more “down-to-Earth” and solid, because they don’t have floating tremolo bridges and don’t come scalloped as a standard.
They are superior for chordal rhythm playing and their tonal spectrum is easily as vast and powerful as those of the other two families of SKY GUITARS;
in fact, due to the physics of the fixed bridge concept, their sound is arguably even more refined and pure and even more rich.

Players who prefer predictability and a never changing instrument will choose UNICORN SGs. 

All SKY GUITARS can produce magic, but these have a magic of a special kind.
It reflects the mindset of a restrained, classy nobility and inner confidence without the need to show off virtuoso prowess and technical brilliance.
While the members of the AQUILA and PEGASUS families are capable of dazzling fire-works and devastating fire-and-brimstone scenarios
as seen and heard in Uli’s renditions of “Fly to the Rainbow”, the UNICORN SKY reflects a more reserved, more pensive and measured approach.
The result is elegance and poetry in motion.

UNICORN SGs are for the discerning and mature musician who doesn’t feel the need to impress by flashy screaming tremolo extravaganzas. 
This is the SKY GUITAR choice for those players and collectors with the mind set of a purist or a poet.

All UJR Sky Guitars are hand-built to order. Each specimen has its own unique identity and character.
No two Sky Guitars are ever quite alike – and this is intentional.
Therefore, photos of existing Sky Guitars may differ somewhat in actual detail from the new guitars.

 

There is a waiting list for all new Sky Guitars.
Current production time is approximately 4-10 months, also depending on the choice of model.

A down payment of 50% is needed to place an order for a Sky Guitar. The remainder is due before delivery.
VAT or sales tax and import duties are not included in the price. 

Payment plans are possible and can be discussed with our sales team.

Left-hand versions of all models are feasible and can be built to order.
We are open to discuss new Sky Guitar configurations and colour schemes with you.

Since each guitar of our Master Series is built to order,

Upon ordering a new Sky Guitar you will be given the opportunity

Before the guitar is built you will see a precise spec sheet detailing any specs
which might differ from the standard instruments.

These are:

Personal choice of sky guitar colour and finish

Choice of wood – body, neck and fretboard

There are 3 types of fretboard modifications available:

   1) non-scalloped, flat
   2) light or shallow scallop – gradually getting deeper
   3) deep scallop

 It is also possible to determine from which fret scalloping will commence.
Players who gravitate towards chords and rhythm playing should opt for a flat fret board.
Scalloping comes into its own during lead playing.
